Oliver Mtukudzi

Oliver Mtukudzi, "Tuku", as he is best known to his fans, was born in 1952 in Harare, Zimbabwe. He is our legendary world music icon and his skills encompass lead singing, songwriting and finger-tipped, soul-filled guitar playing.

Distinguished by his deep, gravely voice that seems to come from the depths of his spirit and a huge talent for writing songs that reflect on the daily life and struggles of the people of his homeland, Mtukudzi can rightly be said to be not only Zimbabwe's, but one of Africa's greatest musical artists.

"Tuku music" has evolved into something quite distinct. His hypnotic rhythms are undeniably contagious, inspiring his audience to dance along with him, but it is his lyrics that have captured the hearts of his people. The words to his songs, performed mostly in the Shona language of Zimbabwe as well as English, invariably deal with social and economic issues.

Carefully balancing compelling rhythms and accessible melodies with insightful lyrics, Tuku has built a vast body of work that is politically and socially relevant, yet entertaining and accessible to a worldwide audience.

A quarter century after his earliest successes with the Black Spirits, he continues to showcase all of these talents and more in live performances that have captivated audiences not just in his homeland but worldwide. His most recent world tour takes him to South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, the UK and USA.

With a career that has spanned almost three decades and produced over forty original albums, most of them best-sellers, 'Tuku' is now coming Down under! Their world tour coincides with the release of his new album 'Tsimba itsoka' which will be sold at all venues. The CD can also be ordered through us. Tour T-shirts can also be pre-ordered.
